On the morning of April 13, the 3rd China (Dongjiang) Shipping Industry Week and the 7th China Maritime Finance (Dongjiang) International Forum grandly opened in Binhai New Area, Tianjin.
With the care and support of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee and Tianjin Municipal People's Government, under the careful guidance of the China Communications and Transportation Association and the People's Government of Binhai New Area, Tianjin, and with the strong support of Tianjin Maritime Court and Tianjin Municipal Port and Shipping Administration, this conference is jointly organized by China Shipping Gazette and the Administrative Committee of Tianjin Dongjiang Comprehensive Bonded Zone.

A total of 690 guests attended the 3rd China (Dongjiang) Shipping Industry Week on site, and over 40 media outlets covered the conference.
The year 2023 marks the first year of fully implementing the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and a crucial year for connecting the preceding and following phases of the 14th Five-Year Plan.
The 14th Five-Year Plan sets out the requirement of prioritizing the innovative development of shipbuilding, shipping and related industries to enhance core competitiveness. Meanwhile, impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the global economic and trade industrial chain is undergoing restructuring, the shipping market shows a clear recovery trend, and a new cycle is quietly emerging. Against this backdrop, the conference is themed "Green and Smart Shipping Empowered by Finance", building a platform for all industry stakeholders to offer suggestions for the future development of the industry.

Xu Zuyuan, Former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Ambassador of the International Maritime Organization, delivered a keynote speech titled "Finance Empowers New Trends in Port and Shipping to Build a Win-Win Cooperation Community" at the opening ceremony.
He analyzed the trend of building a safe, stable, smart, efficient, green and low-carbon port and shipping logistics system to support the efficient operation of global trade and steadily advance global carbon peak and carbon neutrality. He also put forward four suggestions on how the financial industry can take the initiative to integrate and play an active role under the new trends, so as to push the port and shipping industry into a new stage of development.
First, the shipping financing mechanism should act as a driver and accelerator for the new trends in the development of port and shipping logistics. Second, he called on the port and shipping industry and the financial industry to not only achieve in-depth integration at the business level, but also build a win-win cooperation community with shared prosperity. Third, the financial industry and the port and shipping industry should serve as bridges for each other to jointly build a port and shipping value system and index system. Finally, in response to the new trends and progress of the industry, the two sides should formulate mutually supportive transformation and upgrading paths.

Lian Maojun, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee and Secretary of the CPC Binhai New Area Committee, said in his welcome speech that Binhai New Area will leverage the core strategic resource advantages of Tianjin Port to fully implement the action of supporting and leading the integrated development of port, industry and city with high-quality development of Binhai New Area, contributing Binhai's strength to accelerating the building of a maritime power and a shipping power.
First, it will accelerate the construction of smart and green hub ports to build a northern international shipping core area. Second, it will vigorously develop port-side industries to build a marine economy demonstration zone. Third, it will strengthen financial empowerment to build a financial innovation demonstration zone.

Li Gang, Vice President of the China Communications and Transportation Association, delivered a speech on behalf of the guiding units. He stated that the China Communications and Transportation Association will, in line with the requirements of the new development stage, fully promote the construction of a comprehensive transportation system. Meanwhile, taking the association's science and technology awards and group standards as the starting point, it will actively promote scientific and technological innovation and facilitate the promotion and application of new technologies and achievements. In addition, it will extensively participate in the construction of the industrial chain, carry out research and return visit activities, and give full play to the role of the association as a third-party institution to promote the sound and healthy development of the industry.

Ni Wei, President of China Shipping Gazette, delivered the opening address on behalf of the organizer. He said that the theme of this Shipping Industry Week places finance in an important position of empowering the industry, reflecting the port and shipping industry's expectation for the financial industry to play a more important role.
He hoped that the participating representatives from the port and shipping industry and financial institutions could offer suggestions for the industry from different perspectives and reach deeper cooperation. At the subsequent plenary session, Yang Liu, Secretary of the Party Working Committee and Director of the Administrative Committee of Tianjin Dongjiang Comprehensive Bonded Zone, introduced Dongjiang's innovations and practices in the fields of smart and green shipping and financial empowerment.
It is learned that up to now, the total number of international vessel leases in Dongjiang has exceeded 500, with an asset scale of over 180 billion yuan. In 2022, more than half of the vessel leasing assets allocated globally by Chinese-funded financial shipowners were located in Dongjiang. Meanwhile, Dongjiang has also become a major hub for the leasing and disposal of offshore engineering assets in China.

Chen Hongbing introduced that with the official release of the logo, preparations for the 30th anniversary events of China Shipping Gazette have been fully launched. The celebration conference for the 30th anniversary of China Shipping Gazette and the 10th Annual Meeting of the China Top 50 Shipping Elites Forum will be held at the Shanghai Convention & Exhibition Center of International Sourcing (SHCEC) on November 21 this year. Concurrently, the 2nd Port and Shipping Logistics Industry Exposition with a total area of 13,000 square meters will be held for three days.
