Top 50 Shipping Elites Research Center (Full Name: Shanghai Top 50 Shipping Elites Development Research Center, Abbreviation: 50SERC) originated from the first annual meeting of China Top 50 Shipping Elites Forum held in Beijing in December 2013. After 12 years of development, “Top 50 Shipping Elites” has become an advanced brand for leaders of major port, shipping and logistics enterprises and authoritative experts in the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to conduct forward-looking and strategic research on industry topics.
As a research institution under the “Top 50 Shipping Elites” brand, in accordance with the clear positioning that “social think tanks are an integral part of new-type think tanks with Chinese characteristics” and the requirements of “exploring effective ways for social think tanks to participate in decision-making consulting services and fostering a sound environment for their development” set forth in the Opinions on Strengthening the Construction of New-Type Think Tanks with Chinese Characteristics issued by the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council in January 2015, 50SERC was registered with the civil affairs department of Shanghai in April 2015. It focuses on three core research areas: integrated development of comprehensive transportation including waterway, railway, airway, highway and pipeline transportation; cost reduction and efficiency improvement of supply chain logistics in manufacturing and international trade; and improvement of corporate governance in the sector such as strategic planning and special diagnosis. It has carried out special research including Suggestions on Shipping Industry’s Response to COVID-19, Research on Green Marine Fuels, Suggestions on Responding to U.S. Maritime Section 301 Investigation, General Rules for ESG Evaluation of Shipping Logistics Enterprises, Impact of Geopolitical Conflicts on the Shipping Industry, and Evaluation of Service Capability of International Supply Chain Logistics Enterprises, and held many academic conferences. Relevant research results have attracted wide attention and praise from the industry. In addition, the International Supply Chain Logistics Exposition(ISL Expo) hosted by 50SERC has become a well-recognized brand exhibition in the industry, playing an important role in helping enterprises expand business opportunities, promoting the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and advancing international exchanges and cooperation.
Looking ahead, 50SERC is committed to building itself into a globally influential think tank with research and platform functions, adhering to the principles of neutrality, authority, specialty and public credibility. Based on waterway transportation research, it will also conduct research on comprehensive transportation (railway, airway, roadway, etc.), supply chain logistics (manufacture, international trade, etc.) and corporate governance (strategic planning, business diagnosis, etc.). Its business covers five sectors: scientific research and consulting, education and training, communication and transformation, public welfare and branding, exhibitions and cross border cooperation.

Originated from the “China Top 50 Shipping Elites Forum” founded in 2013, Top 50 Shipping Elites Research Center(50SERC) was registered in Shanghai in 2015 as a research institution under the brand, in accordance with the positioning and requirements for social think tanks specified in the Opinions on Strengthening the Construction of New-Type Think Tanks with Chinese Characteristics. Over the past decade since its establishment, 50SERC has actively fulfilled the duties and missions of a social think tank, serving the high-quality development of transportation and international logistics, and has won wide attention and recognition from the industry.
Now that the national 15th Five-Year Plan has been officially released, 50SERC embraces new development opportunities. With strong support and full commitment, the new team is poised to make new achievements. Looking ahead, we will strive to build 50SERC into a globally influential think tank with research and platform functions, adhering to neutrality, authority, specialty and public credibility. Based on waterway transportation research, we will also conduct in-depth studies on comprehensive transportation (railway, air, highway, pipeline, etc.), supply chain logistics (manufacturing, international trade, etc.) and corporate governance (strategic planning, special diagnosis, etc.). The core resource of Top 50 Shipping Elites Research Center is 50 representative and authoritative industry elites. The letter “E” stands for “Elite”, so “50” and “E” are highlighted. The pattern in the middle of “0” is a ship, symbolizing that 50SERC originates from shipping industry research.
The three blue lines in the middle represent the three core research areas of 50SERC: comprehensive transportation, supply chain logistics and corporate governance. The three blue lines and two white spaces in between symbolize the five modes of transportation covered by 50SERC: waterway, railway, airway, highway and pipeline. The pattern resembles both waves and pathways.
“SERC” is the English abbreviation of Top 50 Shipping Elites Research Center. The letter “S” represents Shipping, Supply Chain Logistics and Shanghai (the location of 50SERC’s headquarters).
The two main colors of the LOGO: blue represents the foundation and the rooted industry; orange represents capability, core resources and the rising sun. It implies that 50SERC gathers intellectual resources of experts, deeply engages in professional research, serves the high-quality development of the industry, and embraces a bright future like the rising sun.
