On the morning of August 21, the 2nd International Supply Chain Logistics Exposition (Shanghai) (ISL Expo 2024) grandly opened at the Shanghai Convention & Exhibition Center of International Sourcing.

This year's expo is co-hosted by China Shipping Gazette, the Shipping and Logistics Branch of the China Communications and Transportation Association, the Express Logistics Branch of the China Communications and Transportation Association, and the Top 50 Shipping Elites Research Center. The three-day expo, themed "Gathering Port, Shipping, Railway and Air, Connecting Foreign Trade Cargo Owners", strives to build "the expo with the largest gathering of logistics managers from foreign trade cargo owners". It is expected to attract 20,000 professional visitors, including more than 2,500 foreign trade cargo owner buyers.

At the opening ceremony, the plaque-unveiling ceremony for the "Research Group on China's Logistics ESG Series Standards" was also held. Plaque Unveiling of the Research Group on China's Logistics ESG Series Standards

"ESG" refers to Environment, Social and Governance, which is an important measure to promote the high-quality development of China's logistics industry. At present, the China Communications and Transportation Association has accepted and publicized the project application for the group standard General Requirements for ESG Disclosure of Logistics Enterprises, put forward by units including the Shipping and Logistics Branch and the Top 50 Shipping Elites Research Center. Follow-up preparation work for the group standard Guidelines for ESG Disclosure of Shipping and Logistics Enterprises has also been included in the work plan.

To carry out the research and development of the above standards, under the guidance of the China Communications and Transportation Association, the China Top 50 Shipping Elites Forum, the Shipping and Logistics Branch of the China Communications and Transportation Association, China Shipping Gazette, the Top 50 Shipping Elites Research Center and other units invited key enterprises and institutions to jointly initiate the "Research Group on China's Logistics ESG Series Standards", as the main body to promote the formulation of logistics enterprises' ESG series standards. The research group is led by Professor Huang Youfang, initiator of the China Top 50 Shipping Elites Forum, former Chairman of the China Institute of Navigation and former President of Shanghai Maritime University. It gathers well-known domestic and foreign experts in logistics and ESG, as well as professionals recommended by all initiating and supporting units, forming a high-level research team that is leading in China and aligned with international standards.

In addition, the research group, in cooperation with the Top 50 Shipping Elites Research Center, also launched a collection campaign for logistics ESG practice cases. At the opening ceremony, Huang Youfang, Director of the Logistics Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education and Former President of Shanghai Maritime University, and Ni Wei, President of China Shipping Gazette, presented certificates to some enterprises participating in the case collection.

At the conference, the Initiative for Resilient Development of International Supply Chain Logistics was also released. Covering multiple transport modes, supporting the sustainable development (ESG) of logistics enterprises, paying attention to the reasonable demands of small and medium logistics and cargo owner enterprises, and calling for the establishment of a regular communication mechanism between cargo owners and logistics enterprises, the initiative includes the following contents: it is proposed that all parties of supply and demand in international supply chain logistics sign reasonable long-term cooperation agreements based on the market environment and business demands; it is proposed that suppliers of international supply chain logistics vigorously adopt digital and intelligent technologies to improve logistics operation efficiency and service quality; it is proposed that demanders of international supply chain logistics fully recognize the cyclical characteristics of the international logistics industry and acknowledge the value of international logistics services; it is proposed that all parties in international supply chain logistics pay attention to the survival and development of small and medium-sized enterprises; it is proposed that all parties in international supply chain logistics establish a regular communication mechanism to strengthen interaction and communication.

In the next step, China Shipping Gazette will cooperate with relevant industry organizations and major international logistics and foreign trade cargo owner enterprises to implement the spirit of the Initiative for Resilient Development of International Supply Chain Logistics, promote the formulation of relevant standards for international supply chain logistics enterprises, carry out relevant certifications, and promote them to foreign trade cargo owner enterprises, so as to jointly contribute to the resilient and stable development of international supply chain logistics.

As concurrent events of this year's expo, the 2nd Roundtable for Chairmen of China's Listed Logistics Companies and the High-Level Meeting of Core Enterprises in Port, Shipping, Railway, Air and Express Industries were held on August 20.

On August 21, events including the 3rd Rail-Water Intermodal Transport Development Forum, the 7th Global Trade and Container Shipping Conference – Strategy and Trend Session, the 1st Annual Meeting of the International Air Logistics Forum, the 1st ISEA Special Service Matchmaking Conference – Southeast Asia Session, the 2024 China Wire and Cable Products Overseas Expansion and High-Quality Supply Chain Development Conference, the 2024 National Tire Industry Export and Shipping Logistics Cooperation Forum, the 2024 PV Industry Supply Chain Logistics Forum, the 2024 China Home Appliance Industry International Supply Chain Development Summit Forum, and the Meeting between Foreign Trade Cargo Owners and Heads of Key Exhibitors & Symposium on Units of the Initiative for Resilient Development of International Supply Chain Logistics, were also held.

It is learned that the 3rd International Supply Chain Logistics Exposition (Shanghai) will be held in Shanghai from May 21 to 23, 2025.
