On November 28, The 4th Greater Bay Area Port, Shipping and Logistics Conference was grandly held at Nansha International Convention & Exhibition Center in Guangzhou. The event was hosted by China Shipping Gazette (CSG), with Guangzhou Port Group Co., Ltd. as the strategic partner, undertaken by the Top 50 Shipping Elites Research Center (50SERC), supported by Shanghai Panasia Shipping Co., Ltd., and co-organized by Guangzhou Ubex International Logistics Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Haicheng International Freight Forwarding Co., Ltd. and Guangzhou Shipping Exchange Co., Ltd.
The development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is a national strategy personally planned, deployed and promoted by General Secretary Xi Jinping, and has been included in the reports of the 19th and 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. The year 2025 also marks the third anniversary of the issuance of the Overall Plan for Deepening All-round Cooperation Facing the World in Guangzhou Nansha by the State Council. Standing at a brand-new historical starting point, this conference gathered government leaders, executives from port, shipping, logistics, supply chain and manufacturing enterprises, as well as industry experts and scholars. Centering on the theme "Building Shipping Hubs Under the New Blueprint of the 15th Five-Year Plan", participants conducted in-depth exchanges, shared experience and achievements, and jointly explored new paths for the high-quality development of the port and shipping logistics industry in the Greater Bay Area.

Liu Wei, Member of the Standing Committee of the Guangzhou Municipal Party Committee and Secretary of the Nansha District Party Committee, spoke on behalf of the host region. He noted that Nansha enjoys a superior geographical location, strong innovation momentum, first-class business environment and unique urban charm. The district is fully implementing the development strategy of integrating seaport, airport, digital port, financial port and talent port, and accelerating the development of five major highlands for opening-up, scientific and technological innovation, industrial development, talent gathering and livability. He welcomed enterprises to settle in Nansha and hoped to carry out in-depth cooperation with all parties to jointly build a world-class Greater Bay Area.

Huang Bo, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Guangzhou Port Group Co., Ltd., delivered a keynote speech titled Value-oriented and Innovation-driven: Jointly Building an Efficient and Collaborative Smart & Green Port and Shipping Logistics Chain.

He introduced that during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, Guangzhou Port will further integrate into national strategies including the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Belt and Road Initiative. It will accelerate the transformation into a port-based comprehensive logistics service provider, and push forward the construction of major hubs, corridors and networks. The port will strive to build itself into a port featuring outstanding efficiency and quality with first-class services, a port with efficient interconnection and value-added logistics, as well as an innovative port driven by smart and green development, so as to play a bigger role in fostering the dual-circulation development pattern. He also called on the port and shipping community to further improve the port technical and service standard system and industrial coordination mechanisms, deepen opening-up and mutually beneficial cooperation, and jointly build an open, shared, smart and interconnected port and shipping logistics industrial ecosystem. All sectors should work together to develop a first-class bay area and a world-class port cluster.

Li Yanlin, Deputy Director of the Modern Logistics Research Center, China Academy of Transportation Sciences, shared his thoughts on the development situation and strategic priorities of transportation and logistics during the 15th Five-Year Plan period.

He pointed out that the development of transportation and logistics in this period should focus on multiple priorities: taking multimodal transport as the starting point to advance the physical interconnection of infrastructure and the alignment of standards and rules; adopting systematic thinking to reduce costs, improve quality and boost efficiency in the transportation and logistics industry; focusing on the construction of major transport corridors to elevate cross-regional collaboration; promoting the integrated application and trading of data to unlock the value of data elements; and advancing the development of international logistics corridors to strengthen the resilience of international logistics supply chains.

Liu Yifa, Deputy Director of Guangzhou Port Bureau, gave a comprehensive introduction to the construction of Guangzhou International Shipping Hub.

He stated that Guangzhou has developed into a large comprehensive port with complete facilities and a burgeoning port-side economy. The city is stepping up the construction of the Greater Bay Area Joint Shipping Exchange Center, practicing the development of green and smart ports, building world-class waterfront tourism destinations, and fostering an efficient and convenient business environment. He emphasized that the 15th Five-Year Plan period is a critical stage for Guangzhou Port to grow from a large world port to a strong world port, and evolve from a shipping hub to a global resource allocation center. Targeting the goal of building a world-class port, Guangzhou Port is fully committed to developing an international shipping and logistics hub with unimpeded land and water transportation, a dynamic world-class port-side industrial cluster, and a high-standard opening-up gateway facing the world.

The conference released the achievements and initiatives marking the 20th anniversary of premium domestic shipping routes. Jointly launched by Guangzhou Port Group, Liaoning Port Group, Tianjin Port Group, Hebei Port Group, Shandong Port Group, Jiangsu Port Group, Lianyungang Port, Shanghai Port, Zhejiang Port Group, Beibu Gulf Port Group, Shanghai Panasia Shipping Co., Ltd., Antong Holdings Co., Ltd., Zhonggu Logistics Group Co., Ltd. and Xinfeng Shipping, the initiative proposes to build an efficient and collaborative network of hub corridors, cultivate an integrated and enabling industrial service ecosystem, explore green and low-carbon transformation paths for the port and shipping industry, build smart and interconnected innovation platforms, abide by the principles of integrity and win-win cooperation, and undertake the mission of serving national strategies. All parties will work together to build a safe, efficient, green and smart port and shipping ecosystem, elevate domestic container transportation to new heights, and make greater contributions to fostering the new development pattern and promoting high-quality economic growth.

It is learned that since the launch of China's first premium domestic shipping route "Tianjin-Guangzhou Express" in 2005, Guangzhou Port has joined hands with major domestic ports and shipping enterprises to create an innovative port-shipping cooperation model and build a north-south "Golden Maritime Corridor". This has realized complementary advantages and coordinated development among port groups, optimized China's logistics and transportation structure, improved the resilience and security of supply chains, and provided strong support for the development of a modern industrial system and high-quality economic growth.
Meanwhile, a press conference for the 150-day countdown to The 4th International Supply Chain Logistics Exposition (ISL Expo 2026) was held on the sidelines of the conference.
Scheduled to be held in Shanghai from April 22 to 24, 2026, the expo features four major highlights, as introduced by Chen Hongbing, Executive Director of the ISL Expo Organizing Committee and Editor-in-Chief of China Shipping Gazette (CSG): fully upgraded events for foreign trade cargo owners, greatly enhanced international influence, simultaneous improvement in quantity and quality of exhibitors, and optimized organization of professional visitors. He stated confidently that the total exhibition area will increase by 50% to 20,000 square meters, and the number of professional visitors will reach 25,000, including 3,000 foreign trade buyers. All enterprises and professionals across the international supply chain logistics sector are sincerely invited to attend this grand industry event.

Against the backdrop of accelerated overseas expansion of Chinese manufacturing enterprises and uneven service capabilities as well as the lack of unified evaluation criteria among international logistics providers, the Top 50 Shipping Elites Research Center (50SERC), China Communications and Transportation Association - Shipping and Logistics Branch (CCTA-SLB) and China Shipping Gazette (CSG) have jointly initiated the compilation of the Evaluation of Service Capability of International Supply Chain Logistics Enterprises. The project has completed preliminary industrial research and assessment, and been officially approved. Huang Youfang, Director of the Logistics Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education and Former President of Shanghai Maritime University, serves as the team leader of the research group.
A launching ceremony for the research group and an appointment ceremony for the first batch of experts were held during the conference. Huang Youfang and Ni Wei jointly unveiled the plaque for the research group and presented appointment certificates to the first batch of experts. Fei Weijun, Former President of the Water Transport Science Research Institute, Ministry of Transport, Wu Chao, General Manager of Guangzhou Port Group Co., Ltd., and Chen Hongbing, Editor-in-Chief of China Shipping Gazette (CSG), witnessed the ceremony. The first expert meeting of the research group was also held on the same day.

The conference unveiled the list of "Excellent Cases of Port & Shipping Logistics Empowering the Development of the Greater Bay Area in 2025". Selected projects include Building a Blue Engine and Forging a New Ecosystem of Intelligent Full-chain Shipping Services submitted by COSCO SHIPPING LINES Co., Ltd., and Bay Area One Port Connect Boosting Reform and Innovative Development submitted by Guangzhou Port Co., Ltd.

As supporting activities, the 12th Annual Meeting of the China Top 50 Shipping Elites Forum (50SEF) and the Customer Symposium of Guangzhou Port Group were held on November 27. Centering on the theme "Port-shipping Linkage for Unimpeded Logistics: Jointly Building a New Full-chain Logistics Ecosystem", more than 100 representatives from Guangzhou Port and port & shipping logistics enterprises exchanged views on route changes, cold chain business expansion, cross-border e-commerce development, digital and intelligent empowerment and full-chain logistics solutions, and put forward suggestions for deepening domestic and international port-shipping cooperation.

On November 28, a series of activities were held successively, including the 3rd Meeting of China Foreign Trade Cargo Owners’ Salon, the 2025 Annual Meeting of China Communications and Transportation Association - Shipping and Logistics Branch (CCTA-SLB), the ISEA Members Carnival & the 8th "Golden 60 Seconds" ISEA Cross-Port Business Cooperation Matchmaking Conference, as well as the Port & Shipping Logistics Exhibition and Negotiation Fair, creating more opportunities for exchanges and cooperation among participants.

The 4th Greater Bay Area Port, Shipping and Logistics Conference was held at an important time when China was formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was advancing in depth. The event has built a high-end platform for in-depth dialogues and practical cooperation, and fully responded to national strategies and regional development demands.

It is confirmed that starting from this edition, the Greater Bay Area Port, Shipping and Logistics Conference will be permanently hosted in Nansha, Guangzhou. It will help Guangzhou grow into a gathering place for global port and shipping resources, a source of institutional innovation and a model for opening-up and cooperation, and compose a new chapter for port and shipping logistics to empower regional development and serve the overall national interests.
